Bengaluru Advocate Alleges Masked Man Flashed Her While Walking Dog
A 38-year-old advocate practising at the Karnataka High Court has filed a formal police complaint alleging that a masked man on a scooter flashed at her while she was walking her pet dog in east Bengaluru. The incident occurred on the morning of April 20 in the Sadanandanagar area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Disturbing Incident
According to the detailed complaint filed with the Byappanahalli police station, the woman, a resident of Sadanandanagar, was walking her dog along 2nd Cross, 7th Main in her neighborhood. She noticed a man wearing a mask and a grey T-shirt seated on a scooter, staring intently at her. After passing by him, she turned back to look and witnessed the man unzipping his pants and exposing himself to her.
The advocate immediately raised a loud alarm upon witnessing this act. The perpetrator quickly fled the scene on his scooter before any bystanders could intervene. In her statement to authorities, the woman recalled the vehicle's registration number as KA-51-LJ-8000, providing a crucial lead for investigators.
Police Response and Legal Action
Officers at Byappanahalli police station have registered a comprehensive case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Section 75: Sexual harassment
- Section 79: Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
- Section 292: Punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for
- Section 296: Obscene acts and songs
An investigating officer confirmed that the woman specifically mentioned the suspect was wearing a mask during the incident. "There was no CCTV camera installed at the exact spot where the flashing occurred," the officer stated. "However, we have thoroughly analysed surveillance footage from surrounding areas and have successfully traced the scooterist's movements. Our investigative team is actively working to identify and locate the accused individual."
Community Concerns and Investigation Challenges
The case highlights ongoing concerns about women's safety in public spaces, particularly during early morning hours when many residents engage in routine activities like walking pets. The absence of CCTV coverage at the specific location presents a significant challenge for investigators, though police emphasize they are pursuing all available leads.
Authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the incident or the suspect to come forward. The registration number of the scooter (KA-51-LJ-8000) remains a key piece of evidence as the investigation continues. Police have assured the public that they are dedicating resources to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice under the applicable provisions of the BNS.
