A tragic incident in Bengaluru on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a four-year-old girl and injured her two siblings after hollow bricks fell from an under-construction building onto their temporary shelter.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident occurred around 3 pm on December 18, 2025, in the Chinnappana Halli area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the HAL police. The victim, identified as Manushree, was inside a temporary shed with her family when approximately 10 to 12 hollow bricks plummeted from the fourth floor of a nearby building that was under construction.
The bricks crashed through the asbestos roof of the shed. Manushree sustained critical injuries in the impact. Her siblings, Shriyan (6) and Shekar (5), along with another woman named Mamatha (30), who were also present, suffered injuries but survived.
Emergency Response and Investigation Findings
Rescue efforts were launched immediately, and Manushree was rushed to Jeevika Hospital. Tragically, doctors at the hospital declared her "brought dead." The preliminary police investigation pointed to severe negligence at the construction site.
Authorities revealed that a person named Srinivasulu was overseeing the construction of the house. The probe indicated that he had failed to implement necessary safety measures. The hollow bricks, intended for wall construction, were stored unsafely on the fourth floor, leading to their fall onto the adjacent shed.
A Family's Grief and Background
The tragedy has devastated a family already familiar with hardship. The children's mother, Madhu, is a native of Bhoragi village in Sindagi taluk, Vijayapura district. She is the sole earner for her family after the death of her husband, Ramesh. Madhu works as a daily wage labourer in Bengaluru to support her three young children.
This heartbreaking event underscores the persistent and deadly issue of safety violations at construction sites across Indian cities, especially in densely populated urban areas like Bengaluru. It raises urgent questions about the enforcement of building safety protocols and the protection of vulnerable communities living in proximity to such sites.
