Belagavi Brahmin Samaj Trust Demands Strict Action Against Illegal Land Grabs
The Belagavi Brahmin Samaj Trust has issued a strong demand for stringent legal action against individuals accused of illegally seizing ancestral properties belonging to the Brahmin community through the use of fabricated documents. The trust has also called for accountability from sub-registrars who allegedly registered these properties without proper scrutiny.
Memorandum Submitted to Deputy Commissioner
A delegation, led by trust president Ram Bhandare and vice-president Bharat Deshpande, formally submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan on Tuesday. The document outlines urgent requests for the administration to address what the trust describes as widespread property fraud in the district.
The trust has urged the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into land registrations that were completed using forged records. They have specifically demanded the filing of criminal cases against the sub-registrars involved in these transactions. Additionally, the memorandum seeks police protection for the affected families and the restoration of their legal rights to the properties.
Allegations of Widespread Fraud
The trust alleges that in numerous rural and urban areas across Belagavi district, ancestral properties that have been passed down through generations have been unlawfully transferred. This has been accomplished using fake ownership records, forged signatures, and documents that falsely represent deceased individuals as being alive.
Furthermore, the trust claims that sub-registrar offices in Belagavi, Khanapur, and other parts of the district have registered these properties without conducting adequate verification. "How can land be registered based on fake documents? How could this happen without administrative negligence?" the trust representatives questioned, highlighting their concerns over systemic failures.
Call for Preventive Measures
To prevent similar incidents in the future, the memorandum advocates for the implementation of stricter verification processes within the land registration system. The trust emphasizes the need for enhanced oversight to safeguard property rights and prevent fraudulent activities.
Official Response and Assurance
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan responded by stating that the issue of land grabbing through forged documents is being taken very seriously by the administration. "Action was already initiated in Hukkeri. Similar strict legal action will be taken in cases reported from other taluks as well," he assured the delegation.
The meeting was attended by trust treasurer Ramesh Kulkarni, joint secretary Vilas Joshi, executive member Anushree Deshpande, and several other members, underscoring the community's collective concern over the matter.
