Kanpur Police Nab Bawariya Gang Member After 11-Year Fugitive Hunt
In a significant breakthrough, Kanpur police on Friday apprehended a key member of the notorious Bawariya gang, who had been evading capture for over a decade in connection with multiple serious crimes. The arrest marks the culmination of an extensive 11-year manhunt spanning several districts.
Weapons Recovered and Reward Details
During the arrest, authorities recovered a pistol and two live cartridges from the accused, underscoring the dangerous nature of the operation. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Majay Singh confirmed that a combined reward of Rs 75,000 had been announced for the suspect by police departments in Kanpur and Jaunpur.
Background of the 2015 Dacoity and Murder Case
The investigation traces back to a brutal incident in 2015 at the residence of Raja Singh in Khadamau village, under the jurisdiction of Bilhaur police station. In this heinous act, dacoits assaulted family members with sticks, resulting in the tragic death of Raja Singh. Following the attack, a formal case of dacoity and murder was registered against four unidentified individuals.
Identification and Fugitive Status of the Accused
Police investigations identified the arrested individual as Kallu, also known as Firoz, who is the nephew of Saleem, the alleged leader of the Bawariya gang from Makanpur. Kallu had been absconding since the crimes and was also implicated in a separate dacoity and murder case in Shahganj, Jaunpur, dating back to 2014.
Elusive Lifestyle and Police Operation
To avoid detection, the accused had adopted a nomadic lifestyle, residing in various states under different aliases. The Jaunpur police had declared a reward of Rs 50,000 for his capture, while Kanpur police offered an additional Rs 25,000. Acting on a crucial tip-off, Inspector Janardan Singh Yadav from Araul police station successfully arrested Kallu near Singhauli village on Friday.
This arrest highlights the persistent efforts of law enforcement in tackling organized crime and bringing long-sought fugitives to justice.
