Barwani Police Apprehend Gun Runner in Major Operation
In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Barwani district police arrested a gun runner on Sunday and seized a cache of illicit weapons and other items in the Niwali police station area. The operation, based on a tip-off, led to the recovery of five country-made firearms and the apprehension of the suspect, who was allegedly using social media to conduct his deals.
Tip-Off Leads to Swift Police Action
According to Niwali police station in-charge RK Lovanshi, authorities received credible information about a suspicious individual roaming near Sidri Phata on Palsud Road. The person was reportedly riding a motorcycle without a registration number, raising immediate red flags. Acting promptly on the intelligence, a police team swiftly reached the location, cordoned off the area, and detained the suspect.
Recovery of Illegal Arms and Evidence
The arrested individual has been identified as Kripal Singh Takrana, a resident of Undi Khodri under the Palsud police station of Barwani district. A thorough search of his possessions yielded five country-made pistols, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 75,000. Additionally, police confiscated a mobile phone, a bag, Rs 1,000 in cash, and the unregistered motorcycle, valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh.
Instagram Used for Arms Trafficking Deals
During the preliminary investigation, police uncovered that the accused utilized Instagram to facilitate illegal arms transactions. He was allegedly on his way to Maharashtra via Khetiya town, which is situated on the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border, with the intent to supply weapons to a contact. This revelation highlights the growing use of social media platforms in criminal activities, posing new challenges for law enforcement agencies.
Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Following his arrest, Kripal Singh Takrana was produced before the court, which granted police remand for further interrogation. Authorities stated that the initial probe suggests the accused was deeply involved in illegal arms trafficking and may have been planning a major crime. The seizure of the firearms and other items is expected to disrupt a potential threat to public safety.
