Barnala Police Nab 4 Armed Robbers After Gunfight, Recover Illegal Weapons
Barnala police arrest 4 robbers after exchange of fire

In a significant breakthrough, the Barnala district police successfully apprehended a gang of armed robbers on Friday after a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. The operation, based on specific intelligence, led to the arrest of four individuals and the recovery of a cache of illegal weapons and stolen goods.

Police Raid Erupts into Gunfight

Acting on credible information, a specialized police team conducted a surprise raid in the bustling grain market area of Barnala. Upon seeing the officers, the accused criminals did not surrender but instead chose to open fire in a desperate bid to escape. The police party, demonstrating commendable restraint and courage, retaliated in self-defence to neutralize the threat.

In the ensuing encounter, the police team managed to overpower and arrest all four accused. One of the suspects sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the crossfire. He was immediately provided medical aid and shifted to the Civil Hospital in Barnala, where he is currently receiving treatment. No police personnel were reported injured in the operation.

Illegal Arsenal and Stolen Items Recovered

Following the arrests, the police conducted a thorough search and recovered a significant haul of illegal items from the possession of the accused. Barnala's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Sarfaraz Alam, detailed the seized materials. The recovered items include:

  • A .315 bore country-made revolver along with its cartridges.
  • A .32 bore pistol loaded with live rounds.
  • A sharp-edged weapon.
  • Two motorcycles, one of which did not have a registration number.
  • A mobile phone that had been robbed in a previous incident.

Gang Linked to Multiple Crimes in December 2025

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police have revealed that the arrested individuals were not novices. The gang is believed to be involved in multiple incidents of robbery and snatching that terrorized the Barnala area in December 2025. A formal case has been registered against the accused under various stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

SSP Sarfaraz Alam confirmed that the investigation is far from over. Police teams are now working to identify other associates of the gang and trace its backward and forward linkages. This includes uncovering their network, sources of illegal weapons, and any other crimes they may have committed. Further investigation is actively in progress to ensure all involved are brought to justice.
