Bareilly Man Killed in Police Encounter After Alleged Double Murder and Attack on Wife

In a shocking sequence of events in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a 38-year-old man was shot dead in a police encounter early Tuesday, just one day after he allegedly murdered his mother-in-law and brother-in-law and critically injured his wife during a village panchayat meeting. The incident, which unfolded in the Izzat Nagar area, has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious questions about family disputes escalating into extreme violence.

Violent Panchayat Meeting Precedes Deadly Encounter

The tragic chain of events began on Monday afternoon in the Rahpura Chaudhary locality, where a panchayat was convened to resolve an ongoing family dispute. According to police officials, tensions escalated dramatically when the accused, identified as Afzar Khan, was allegedly struck with a slipper by his 20-year-old brother-in-law, Adil. In a violent response that horrified those present, Khan reportedly produced a knife and repeatedly stabbed his 54-year-old mother-in-law, Asma, and Adil. Both victims succumbed to excessive bleeding at the scene.

Even more disturbing was the attack that followed on Khan's 30-year-old wife, Saima. As she attempted to intervene and stop the violence, Khan turned the knife on her in full view of their two minor children, aged 8 and 5. Saima sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where she remains in serious condition. Police revealed that Saima had been staying at her parental home for the past two days following frequent quarrels with her husband.

Police Operation Ends in Fatal Confrontation

Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya provided detailed information about the subsequent police operation. "We had been actively searching for the accused, Afzar Khan, after receiving specific intelligence that he was hiding on the outskirts of the village and was armed with dangerous weapons," Arya stated. "The input we received suggested he was planning to kill his wife, which made immediate intervention crucial."

A specialized team from the Izzat Nagar police station moved in to apprehend Khan. When confronted by officers, Khan allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, injuring two police personnel who were subsequently taken to hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. In the retaliatory firing that followed, Khan was fatally wounded. Officials later revealed that Khan had a previous criminal record, having been convicted for the murder of his uncle.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation Underway

The police have initiated comprehensive legal proceedings following the violent incidents. SSP Arya confirmed, "Saima's statement has been formally recorded before a magistrate, ensuring proper legal documentation of her account. Additionally, a forensic team has thoroughly examined the crime scene to gather crucial evidence."

An FIR (First Information Report) was registered late Monday under BNS section 103, which pertains to murder charges. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the complete sequence of events and examine the underlying causes that led to such extreme violence within a family setting. The case highlights the complex challenges law enforcement faces when domestic disputes escalate into life-threatening situations requiring immediate intervention.
