Major Drug Bust in Lucknow: ANTF Seizes Heroin Worth ₹12 Crore
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Barabanki unit executed a successful operation in Lucknow on Saturday, resulting in the arrest of a key drug trafficker and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin.
Operation Details and Arrest
Acting on precise intelligence, the ANTF team received information that a suspected drug trafficker was scheduled to arrive in the Chowk area of Lucknow to deliver a consignment of heroin. The team swiftly mobilized and set up a strategic trap near a park located opposite the Aga Bakar Imambara, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chowk Police Station.
The operation culminated in the interception of a suspicious individual, who was identified as Mohammad Imran, a resident of Tikra Murtaza village in Zaidpur. At the time of his arrest, Imran was residing in the New Haiderganj locality under the Thakurganj Police Station in Lucknow.
Seizure and Market Value
During the operation, authorities recovered a total of 5.54 kilograms of heroin from the accused. This narcotic haul is estimated to be worth around ₹12 crore in the international market, highlighting the scale and financial implications of the drug trafficking network involved.
Interrogation and Trafficking Methods
Following his arrest, Mohammad Imran was subjected to intensive interrogation by the police. During the questioning, he revealed that he sourced the heroin from an individual operating in the Campbell Road area, acquiring it at relatively low prices. Imran then engaged in repackaging the narcotic substance into smaller packets, which he subsequently sold at significantly higher rates across various parts of Lucknow, thereby generating substantial profits from his illicit activities.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
A formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at the Chowk Police Station within the Lucknow Police Commissionerate. This legal step underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing drug-related crimes in the region.
Investigators are now intensively working to uncover further details of the trafficking network. Key focuses of the ongoing probe include:
- Identifying the primary supplier of the narcotics.
- Mapping the routes used for trafficking the heroin.
- Determining the identities of other individuals involved in the racket.
The ANTF's operation marks a critical blow to drug trafficking activities in Uttar Pradesh, with authorities committed to dismantling such networks to curb the spread of narcotics and ensure public safety.
