In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Balotra police in Rajasthan successfully intercepted and seized a staggering 438.15 kilograms of illegal poppy husk along with an SUV following an intense 15-kilometer high-speed pursuit. The seizure was executed as part of the special anti-narcotics initiative dubbed "Operation Vishbhanjan", a targeted campaign designed to dismantle drug networks operating in the region. Balotra Superintendent of Police Ramesh (IPS) confirmed the details of the operation, highlighting the police force's proactive efforts to curb the flow of illicit substances. This operation underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing stringent measures against narcotics under the NDPS Act.
Chase and Capture: A Night of High-Stakes Action
The incident began when police patrols near Surpura spotted a suspicious black Scorpio SUV moving erratically. Upon being signalled to stop on Pindaran Road, the vehicle's occupants chose to flee, accelerating rapidly and even breaking through police barricades in a desperate attempt to evade capture. What ensued was a tense 15-kilometer chase through the rugged terrain of the border area.
The pursuit reached its climax near the Surpura border when the SUV's tyre burst, forcing the vehicle to a halt. Seizing the opportunity, the driver and a co-passenger abandoned the Scorpio and fled into nearby fields under the cover of darkness, eluding immediate arrest. Despite their escape, the police managed to secure the vehicle and its illicit cargo.
Investigation Uncovers Stolen Vehicle and Multiple Plates
Upon searching the abandoned SUV, authorities made a startling discovery: two different number plates were found inside, leading to suspicions that the vehicle might be stolen. This finding adds a layer of complexity to the case, suggesting possible links to broader criminal activities beyond narcotics trafficking.
