Badlapur Police Warn Schools on Child Safety, Threaten Legal Action

Badlapur Police Adopt Zero-Tolerance Stance on School Safety Amid Rising Child Offences

In a decisive move to combat the alarming increase in sexual offences against minors, Thane police have issued a stern and unequivocal warning to school managements across Badlapur. Authorities have made it explicitly clear that any negligence in ensuring student safety will result in strict legal action against the responsible institutions.

Comprehensive Safety Review Meeting Convenes School Principals and Teachers

A crucial student safety review meeting was organized by police officials, bringing together principals and teachers from pre-primary, playgroup, nursery, junior KG, primary, and secondary schools under the jurisdiction of Badlapur East and West police stations. The significant gathering took place at Pushpalata Mhatre College in Hendrepada, Badlapur West.

The meeting witnessed participation from key dignitaries including DCP Sachin Gore, MLA Dnyaneshwar Mhatre representing the Konkan Teachers' Constituency, assistant commissioner of police Shailesh Kale from the Ambernath division, Badlapur municipal chairperson Ruchita Ghorpade, deputy chairperson Priyanka Damle, and the group education officer. Approximately 100 to 125 principals and teachers attended this important session.

Police Deliver Strong Message on Mandatory Safety Implementation

Addressing the assembled educators and administrators, DCP Sachin Gore delivered a powerful statement. "The state government has already issued detailed circulars regarding child safety. Schools are hereby directed to implement these instructions in letter and spirit. Any laxity will not be tolerated," he declared emphatically.

Gore further emphasized the non-negotiable nature of student protection, stating, "Student safety is non-negotiable. If schools fail to comply with the prescribed norms, we will be compelled to initiate legal proceedings directly against the management."

Disturbing Backdrop of Recent Child Safety Incidents

This police intervention comes against a troubling backdrop of escalating sexual offence cases involving schoolchildren in Badlapur over the past two years. The urgency was highlighted by a recent incident where a 12-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly molested by a school bus driver, a case that generated significant attention and was even discussed in the state legislative session.

Earlier in 2024, a reputed school in the city faced intense scrutiny after two minor children were allegedly assaulted by a sweeper. The situation escalated when the accused was subsequently killed in a police encounter, further underscoring the severity of safety concerns in educational institutions.

Specific Safety Directives and Mandatory Protocols Outlined

During the comprehensive meeting, police officials elaborated on government-mandated safety protocols and issued clear, specific directives to educational institutions. Special emphasis was placed on regulating both school and private transport services, which have been identified as vulnerable areas.

DCP Gore outlined critical requirements for transportation safety: "All school van drivers must undergo proper character verification. Schools must ensure that background checks are completed before appointing any driver or transport staff."

The police commissioner added further mandatory measures: "It is mandatory to appoint women security guards and female attendants in schools. In addition, CCTV cameras must be installed within school premises as well as inside school vans to ensure continuous monitoring."

Comprehensive Transport Regulation Guidance Provided

Police authorities provided detailed guidance to schools regarding compliance with transport regulations, emphasizing strict adherence to safety norms for both school-run and privately operated vehicles that transport students. Officials stressed that ensuring a safe and secure environment for children—particularly those studying from playgroup to secondary level—represents a shared responsibility involving administration, school authorities, and parents.

With law enforcement now implementing close monitoring of compliance measures, schools throughout Badlapur have been formally put on notice. The message is unambiguous: educational institutions must follow safety rules without exception or face stringent legal consequences for any violations.
