Auto Driver Arrested in Amritsar for Role in AK-47 and Narcotics Smuggling Ring

The Amritsar Rural Police have made a significant arrest in an ongoing investigation into a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling operation. An auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Malkit Singh, has been taken into custody for his alleged involvement in transporting illegal consignments, including weapons and drugs.

Key Logistics Handler for Smuggling Network

According to police officials, Malkit Singh acted as a crucial logistics handler for the smuggling network. He is accused of using his auto-rickshaw to ferry consignments of weapons and narcotics at the direction of other suspects involved in the operation. Investigations reveal that he regularly disposed of or relocated these illegal items to safe locations as instructed by the main operatives.

This arrest follows the earlier detention of five other individuals in the same case: Vanshdeep Singh, Avinash alias Kaka, Sukhwinder Singh alias Bablu, Gursewak Singh alias Sonu, and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit. All are residents of Navi Abadi in Attari. During their arrests, the police recovered one AK-47 assault rifle, three Glock pistols, and 36 live cartridges from the possession of Amarjit Singh and Gursewak Singh, highlighting the serious and dangerous nature of the smuggling activities.

Ongoing Investigations and Questioning

A police official confirmed Malkit Singh's arrest and stated that he is currently being interrogated to determine the full extent of his involvement. Authorities are seeking to ascertain how many consignments of arms and heroin he may have transported or disposed of in the past. Further investigations are actively underway to trace the entire network and identify possible links to cross-border smuggling operations, aiming to dismantle the ring completely.

The case underscores the persistent challenges faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime and illegal trafficking in the region. The recovery of high-caliber weapons like the AK-47 and Glock pistols points to a sophisticated operation with potential security implications.
