In a significant crackdown on narcotics, police in Assam's Dhubri district intercepted a substantial consignment of illegal drugs over the weekend. Acting on specific intelligence, officers managed to confiscate a large quantity of brown sugar and apprehend three suspects involved in its transportation.
Night Interception at Dhirghat Checkpoint
The operation was carried out by Chapar police on Saturday night at the strategic Dhirghat checkpoint. Following a credible tip-off, authorities stopped and searched a bus, leading to the major discovery. From the vehicle, they recovered 150 grams of brown sugar, neatly packed in ten separate packets.
The police team swiftly arrested the three individuals found in possession of the contraband. The accused have been identified as Phulbor Ali, Hussain Ali, and Allauddin Sheikh. They were taken into custody and are now facing legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in the drug trade.
High Black-Market Value and Racket Links
Investigating officers revealed the substantial street value of the seized narcotics. According to police estimates, the 150 grams of brown sugar could fetch between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh in the illicit black market, highlighting the lucrative nature of this illegal trade.
An intelligence source disclosed that this seizure is not an isolated incident but points to a larger, organized network. A well-established racket involved in trafficking brown sugar is reportedly active in parts of western Assam. The source indicated that the confiscated drugs were allegedly brought into the region through a Guwahati-based conduit.
