Ludhiana ANTF Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking Networks
In a major anti-narcotics operation, the city unit of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Ludhiana has successfully dismantled two separate drug trafficking rings, resulting in the arrest of three peddlers and the seizure of a substantial 1.4 kilograms of heroin. The investigation has uncovered a direct and alarming connection between the local narcotics trade and an overseas-based gangster, highlighting the international dimensions of the drug menace in Punjab.
Gangster-Linked Operation Uncovered
Authorities revealed a significant breakthrough, indicating that one of the suspects was operating under the explicit instructions of Sonu Khatari, a notorious gangster originally from Nawanshahr who is currently believed to be hiding abroad. This revelation underscores the sophisticated and organized nature of the drug trafficking network, with local operatives taking orders from international handlers.
The first of the two raids led to the arrest of Gurnek Singh in Balachor, Nawanshahr, where officers recovered 700 grams of heroin. According to DSP-ANTF Ajay Kumar, Gurnek was utilizing Snapchat to communicate with Sonu Khatari to coordinate drug shipments. "The probe revealed that Gurnek was in touch with Sonu Khatari... the recovered heroin was procured with his help," Kumar stated. Gurnek is a repeat offender, currently out on bail with two prior NDPS Act cases and five assault charges already on his criminal record, demonstrating a pattern of persistent illegal activity.
Separate Tip-Off Leads to Additional Seizure
In a separate operation based on a credible tip-off, ANTF teams intercepted two residents of Bheelan village in Kapurthala. The suspects are Maninder Singh, identified as a man in Nihang robes, and his accomplice Sandeep Singh. During a thorough search of the duo, officers seized 753 grams of heroin. While Maninder has no prior criminal history, Sandeep Singh was already wanted in connection with a previous Arms Act case, adding to the complexity of the investigation.
Intensified Crackdown and Strategic Focus
AIG-ANTF Vatsala Gupta confirmed that two separate FIRs have been lodged following the significant seizures. The arrests mark a strategic victory for the task force as they attempt to sever the critical logistics chain between street-level peddlers and international handlers. Authorities are now intensively focusing on the digital trail left by the Snapchat communications to identify further associates of the Khatari gang operating within the Punjab region.
This crackdown is part of a broader effort to combat the drug trade in Ludhiana and surrounding areas, with ANTF leveraging technology and intelligence to disrupt networks that span local and international boundaries. The successful operations not only remove dangerous narcotics from circulation but also provide crucial insights into the operational methods of organized crime syndicates, enabling more targeted future interventions.
