Delhi Court Grants 11-Day NIA Custody for Gangster Anmol Bishnoi
Anmol Bishnoi gets 11-day NIA custody in Delhi court

A Delhi court has ordered gangster Anmol Bishnoi, brother of notorious criminal Lawrence Bishnoi, to remain in the custody of the National Investigation Agency for eleven days. The decision came after the NIA presented their case before Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma at Patiala House Court on Wednesday.

NIA's Investigation Requirements

The federal investigation agency, represented by Special Public Prosecutor Rahul Tyagi and a legal team comprising advocates Jatin, Shubham Goyal, Amit Rohilla, and Priyansh Raj Singh, had initially sought fifteen days of custody. In their remand application, the NIA emphasized the necessity to collect additional evidence to uncover the broader conspiracy behind the gang's activities.

The agency specifically mentioned the need to obtain incriminating details about other members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including their current locations and identities. Furthermore, investigators aim to determine the modus operandi of the criminal syndicate and trace the sources of funding that sustain their operations.

Anmol Bishnoi's Criminal Background

Anmol Bishnoi faces an extensive criminal record with over thirty cases pending against him across multiple states in India. His legal troubles escalated significantly when he was declared a proclaimed offender in January 2025.

Central agencies are particularly interested in his alleged involvement in several high-profile cases, including:

  • The murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022
  • The killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique in October last year
  • The firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence

International Extradition and Deportation

Anmol Bishnoi's journey to NIA custody involved international legal proceedings. After fleeing to the United States in May 2022 using a fake passport, his asylum application was ultimately rejected by a Louisiana court. The US Immigration Department discovered that one of the reference letters from a company attached to his travel documents had been forged.

Following India's extradition request submitted in January last year, the US Department of State sought additional information about cases involving Anmol's direct participation and financial details in March this year. His deportation was finalized, and he arrived in India around 1 PM on Wednesday, immediately being arrested by NIA officials upon landing.

The investigation agency has identified Anmol as a key figure managing the extortion operations of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which maintains significant criminal influence across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. The NIA has named him in two separate cases, announcing a bounty of Rs 10 lakh for information in each instance.

As part of their digital investigation, the agency informed the court about the need to access and analyze various social media accounts linked to Anmol Bishnoi. Court documents also reveal that Anmol, who is proficient in English and Hindi, discontinued his BA LLB studies from Madhav University in Rajasthan back in 2017.

The NIA has complied with legal procedures by informing Anmol's father about the arrest and providing him with the grounds for detention. The case is being handled by experienced criminal lawyer Rahul Tyagi, who also serves as Public Prosecutor in other sensitive NIA matters, including the Popular Front of India case, gangster Arshdeep Dalla's case, and investigations into ISIS modules.
