Amritsar Police Cracks Down on Cross-Border Smuggling Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar city police have successfully dismantled a sophisticated cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module. The operation led to the arrest of five key operatives and the recovery of a substantial cache of illegal items, including sophisticated pistols, heroin, and a large sum of drug money.
Details of the Arrests and Recoveries
The arrested individuals have been identified as Simaranjeet Singh (24), Gurpreet Singh (20), Sukhraj Singh (24), and Sajan Singh, all residents of village Roda Wala Kalan in Amritsar, along with Molakdeep Singh (23), a resident of Ranike in Amritsar. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar announced the details on Monday, highlighting the severity of the operation.
From their possession, authorities recovered six sophisticated pistols, which include two 9MM Glock pistols made in Austria, one Zigana pistol made in Turkey, two .32 Bore pistols, and one .30 Bore pistol. Additionally, 10 live cartridges were seized, along with 115 grams of heroin and Rs 11.90 lakhs in drug money. The police also impounded a Hyundai Creta car that the accused were using for smuggling activities.
Investigation Reveals Drone-Based Smuggling Network
The preliminary investigation has uncovered that the arrested individuals were actively linked to a cross-border smuggling network. According to Commissioner Bhullar, the probe revealed that they were receiving arms and narcotics consignments via drones from across the border. This method highlights the evolving tactics used by criminal elements to bypass traditional security measures.
Further investigation has identified Simaranjeet Singh, Molakdeep Singh, and Gurpreet Singh as repeated offenders, indicating their deep involvement in illicit activities. The police are continuing their efforts to trace the broader network and prevent future smuggling attempts.
This operation underscores the Amritsar police's commitment to combating organized crime and enhancing border security in the region.
