Police Officer Suspended Over Serious Stalking Allegations
In a significant disciplinary action, a police sub-inspector posted in Akola, Maharashtra, has been suspended following grave accusations of stalking and harassing a woman. The Akola police department confirmed the suspension of Sub-Inspector Shankar Bonde through an official press note issued by spokesperson Shankar Shelke.
Details of the Harassment Incident
The unsettling incident reportedly occurred on January 2, around 4:30 PM. According to the police complaint, the woman was traveling from the Balapur Municipal Council area towards Akola. As she reached near Vyala village, the accused officer, Shankar Bonde, allegedly used his vehicle to block her path by placing it across the road.
It is further alleged that Bonde made obscene and objectionable gestures towards the complainant. Demonstrating persistence in his misconduct, even after the woman managed to move ahead, the suspended sub-inspector reportedly chased her and attempted to stop her vehicle once again.
Legal Action and Immediate Fallout
Taking swift action on the woman's complaint, the Balapur police registered a formal case against their colleague. The First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under specific sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges invoked are Sections 78, 79, and 126(2) of the BNS, which pertain to acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation, and related offences. Following the registration of the case, the police department moved quickly to place Sub-Inspector Shankar Bonde, who was posted at the Ramdaspeth police station, under suspension pending further investigation.
