Akal Takht Officiating Jathedar Calls for Restraint in Sensitive Missing Saroops Case

In a significant development from Amritsar, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, the officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht, has voiced serious concerns over the alleged haste displayed by the Punjab Police and the state government in handling the sensitive case involving 328 missing saroops of the Guru Granth Sahib. Issuing a strong directive from the Akal Takht on Monday, Giani Gargaj emphasized the need for complete restraint and urged all parties to refrain from politicizing this delicate matter.

Directive Against Media Trials and Politicization

Giani Gargaj explicitly stated that the Punjab Police's special investigation team (SIT), along with concerned parties or their legal representatives, have no right to hold press conferences, distort facts, encourage media trials, or engage in any form of politicization regarding this issue. He warned that such actions only serve to create confusion among the Sikh sangat and undermine the sanctity of the case, which holds deep religious significance for the community.

Criticism of Information Leaks and Hasty Actions

The officiating jathedar also took note of troubling information leaks that have occurred whenever the police proceeded with inquiry-related actions. He described the circulation of what he termed as "planted news" as reflecting an irresponsible and non-serious approach. Furthermore, Giani Gargaj pointed out that the undue haste shown in viewing the saroops and the government's hurried release of unverified information have only aggravated the situation, potentially inflaming tensions.

Strict Prohibition on Premature Statements

In a categorical statement, Giani Gargaj asserted that no party, institution, or person has the authority to indulge in politics, level allegations, or issue statements in connection with the case while the investigation is still underway. He stressed that premature disclosures and undue haste by the police and government not only deeply hurt Sikh sentiments but also risk disturbing law and order in Punjab, creating an environment of uncertainty and unrest.

Violation of Akal Takht Directives

Despite clear instructions from the Akal Takht, Giani Gargaj noted that certain concerned parties have continued to make statements and allegations. He also highlighted how media and social media platforms are being used to conduct what he called "trials", which he said is in complete violation of the spirit of the directions issued by the Akal Takht. This ongoing activity, according to him, undermines the investigative process and community harmony.

Call for Ethical Conduct Until Investigation Concludes

Giani Gargaj further emphasized that until the investigation is completed and the truth emerges, it is unethical for any party or media outlet to interpret facts, construct narratives, or pronounce judgments. He called for patience and adherence to ethical standards, urging all stakeholders to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference, thereby ensuring that justice is served in a manner that respects Sikh religious sentiments and maintains social stability in the region.
