An AIADMK party worker in Erode district created a major disturbance on Sunday night. He fired his licensed gun into the air three times after a heated argument with his wife. The situation escalated when his in-laws allegedly assaulted him.
Police Detain Functionary After Violent Incident
The Nambiyur police quickly responded to the scene. They detained the AIADMK functionary identified as S Gopinath. This thirty-five-year-old farmer lives in Andavarmalai near Gobichettipalayam.
Domestic Dispute Turns Violent
The trouble began around nine in the evening. Gopinath, who serves as joint secretary of the AIADMK student's wing in Erode West district, argued with his wife Brinda. She is thirty years old.
Brinda became upset during the quarrel. She immediately called her father Velusamy and younger brother Dinesh Kumar. She told them Gopinath had physically beaten her.
In-Laws Arrive and Alleged Assault Occurs
Brinda's father and brother rushed to the location. They reached there around ten thirty at night. The two men then allegedly assaulted Gopinath right in the family courtyard.
This physical attack enraged Gopinath. He stormed inside the house and grabbed his licensed firearm. The angry functionary then stepped outside and fired three shots straight up into the night sky.
Family Seeks Safety and Police Intervention
The loud gunshots terrified Brinda and her relatives. All three ran back into the house and locked the door securely. They then contacted the Nambiyur police station to report the dangerous situation.
Police officers arrived promptly at the spot. They took Gopinath into custody for questioning and further action. Authorities confirmed that their investigation into the entire incident remains ongoing.
