A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death near Ayesha Masjid in the Juhapura area of Ahmedabad late on Wednesday night, allegedly following a dispute over an Instagram post. Another youth, who was accompanying the victim, sustained injuries and was currently undergoing treatment.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Salik Shaikh. According to police, Salik had reached the spot with his friend Kashif Saiyed when they were confronted by Rehan Pathan and his associates. An argument reportedly broke out over a social media post and soon escalated into a violent altercation.
Attack Details
Police said that during the scuffle, the main accused allegedly stabbed Salik in the abdomen, causing him to collapse on the spot. Kashif was also attacked with a knife and stones by the group. Locals gathered at the scene, prompting the accused to flee.
Medical Response
Salik was rushed for medical assistance but was declared dead before he could receive treatment. Kashif, who sustained injuries in the attack, is said to be in stable condition.
Police Action
The Vejalpur police have detained three persons in connection with the case. Police inspector R M Chauhan said that multiple teams were formed to trace the accused. The main accused was apprehended near Milan Park before he could leave the city, said police, while another individual suspected of supplying the weapon used in the crime was also detained.
Investigation Underway
Further investigation was underway to ascertain the sequence of events and the exact motive behind the attack. Police are examining the Instagram post that allegedly triggered the dispute and are questioning the detained suspects to gather more details.
