In a brazen daylight robbery, burglars targeted the residence of a jeweller in Ahmedabad's Kankaria area, making off with cash and valuables worth nearly ten lakh rupees. The incident occurred while the family was away visiting relatives in another city.
Details of the Kankaria Burglary
The complainant, a 37-year-old silver jewellery shop owner from Manek Chowk, had locked his ground-floor flat and travelled to Bharuch with his family. According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged with the Kagdapith police, the theft took place sometime between the afternoon of December 7 and the morning of December 9.
Upon returning home around 11 am on December 9, the family was met with a distressing sight. The main door lock was broken and hanging loose. Inside, they discovered that a metal safe kept in the storeroom had been forcibly opened. Rs 5 lakh in cash was missing from it.
Stolen Silver Ornaments Worth Lakhs
A further inspection of the house revealed that a wooden cupboard in the bedroom had been ransacked. The unidentified culprits had stolen a significant quantity of silver ornaments. The stolen items, with an estimated value of Rs 4.85 lakh, included:
- Silver anklets
- Waist chains
- A silver biscuit
The total value of the stolen cash and jewellery amounts to Rs 9.85 lakh.
Police Case and Investigation
The FIR states that the family initially delayed approaching the police because they could not immediately locate the bills for some of the stolen ornaments. After finding the necessary documents, the jeweller formally registered the complaint.
The Kagdapith police have registered an FIR under the relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for theft and house-breaking. An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits. Police are likely examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and questioning potential witnesses.
This incident has caused alarm among local residents, highlighting concerns about security in residential areas, especially when houses are left unattended for extended periods.
