A shocking incident of road rage escalated into a violent assault and a death threat at knifepoint in the heart of Ahmedabad on Saturday afternoon. A local decorator, who dared to question a driver's dangerous manoeuvres, found himself facing physical violence and a lethal weapon, prompting police intervention.
Confrontation Over Dangerous Driving
The unsettling episode unfolded around 2:15 PM on Saturday near the Mehandi Nawaz Jung Hall in Paldi. The victim, Hiren Bhavsar (37), a resident of the Satellite area, was travelling on his two-wheeler with his friend, Jay Kanojia. They were on their way to purchase decoration materials for his business.
As they reached the Paldi Crossroads, a four-wheeler allegedly overtook them in a reckless manner and came to a sudden halt. The car driver then initiated a heated argument with another motorcyclist on the road. Witnessing the dangerous driving, Bhavsar intervened and objected, warning the driver that his actions could cause serious harm to others.
Assault and Knife Threat
This objection triggered an aggressive reaction from the accused. The situation quickly spiralled out of control. The car driver allegedly walked up to Hiren Bhavsar, grabbed his left hand, and began punching him repeatedly.
When Bhavsar's friend, Jay Kanojia, stepped in to calm the situation, the accused turned his aggression towards both of them, hurling abuses and continuing the confrontation. The complainant further alleges that the accused then retrieved a knife from his vehicle, brandished it menacingly at Bhavsar, and threatened to kill him before finally fleeing the scene.
Police Case Filed
Despite being severely shaken by the traumatic event, Hiren Bhavsar and his friend proceeded with their original plan to buy the decoration items. Later, gathering his courage, Bhavsar approached the Ellisbridge police station and lodged a formal complaint, naming his friend as a witness to the entire incident.
Acting on his complaint, the Ellisbridge police have registered a case against unknown persons. The charges have been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt, uttering abuses, and criminal intimidation. An investigation is now underway to identify and apprehend the accused driver.
