A tragic incident in Agra resulted in the death of two individuals and left five others with serious injuries after a basement wall of an under-construction house suddenly gave way on a cold Sunday morning.
The Fatal Collapse in Vijkauli Village
The accident occurred in Vijkauli village, located in the Bah sub-division of Agra. A local resident, Jodh Singh, was in the process of constructing his house, which included building a basement. As part of the construction process, the basement floor had been filled with a layer of soil, and water was poured over it to compact the earth.
Morning Gathering Turns Deadly
On the chilly Sunday morning, a group of villagers had gathered near the newly constructed basement wall, seeking warmth around a bonfire. Without warning, the wall collapsed, trapping all the men under a heap of debris and rubble. Their screams alerted other residents, who rushed to the scene to initiate a rescue effort.
"Hearing their screams, other villagers rushed to the spot and pulled the injured out," stated SHO Satyasev Sharma. The injured were promptly transported to the Bah community health centre for urgent medical attention.
Casualties and Condition of the Injured
Out of the seven people injured in the collapse, two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Hiralal Yadav (65) and Yogesh Yadav (45).
The five other victims who sustained grievous injuries are:
- Ramendra Singh (58)
- Sunil Kumar (38)
- Bhore Lal
- Kallu (32)
- Uttam Prajapati (45)
Police confirmed that all five have been admitted to different hospitals in Agra. Their condition is now reported to be stable, and they are out of immediate danger.
Police Investigation and Official Statement
Authorities are looking into the circumstances that led to the structural failure. DCP (Agra East) Abhishek Agrawal provided an update, noting, "We have not yet received any formal complaint from the families of the deceased or the injured." The absence of a complaint at this early stage is a key point in the ongoing procedural assessment of the incident.
The collapse has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising questions about construction safety protocols, especially in residential projects undertaken in rural and semi-urban areas. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential hazards present at construction sites.
