Ranchi police exhumed the body of a 50-year-old woman from a burial ground in the city's Doranda area on Tuesday, in the presence of an executive magistrate, after receiving information that the woman had been murdered, which initially appeared to be an accidental death.
Victim Identified
The woman, identified as Nahida Parveen, a resident of Manitola locality in Doranda, was allegedly murdered by her 18-year-old adopted daughter, the daughter's boyfriend, and one of his friends on Saturday, police said.
Initial Cover-Up
According to Ranchi city SP Paras Rana, the daughter initially covered up the death as an accident, claiming that her mother fell in the bathroom and sustained fatal injuries. The body was buried by family members following religious rituals on Sunday, with no immediate suspicion of foul play.
Dramatic Turn
The case took a dramatic turn on Monday night when police received information from members of the deceased's family expressing doubts about the circumstances of her death. Police interrogated the daughter, who initially fabricated a story about three boys forcibly entering the home and killing her mother in front of her. However, after rigorous questioning, she admitted to killing her mother along with her boyfriend and one of his friends.
The SP stated that the daughter killed her mother for refusing to give her money. The victim had a fixed deposit of around Rs 40-50 lakh in her name, with the daughter as the nominee. The daughter recently sold off the deposits and was asking for the money. When her mother refused, she plotted the conspiracy.
Arrests and Investigation
Following the confession, police arrested the adopted daughter from Ranchi, while her boyfriend and his associate were nabbed from Bihar on Tuesday. Police exhumed the body from the burial site and sent it to RIMS for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
