Abu Dhabi Police Issue Stern Warning Over Reckless Driving Behaviors
Motorists in the United Arab Emirates have been officially cautioned by the Abu Dhabi Police regarding severe penalties for reckless driving on public streets. Authorities have announced strict enforcement against actions that endanger lives, specifically highlighting dangerous practices such as opening car doors while vehicles are in motion and filming social media videos on the road.
Part of Broader Smart Road Safety Campaign
This warning forms a crucial component of a larger official campaign to promote smart road safety across the Emirate. Police officials have emphasized that such irresponsible behaviors can lead to catastrophic accidents, placing not only the drivers themselves but also all other road users at significant risk.
Clear Violation of Traffic Laws
Police authorities have clarified that these actions constitute clear violations of established traffic laws and represent a direct threat to public safety. They have urgently appealed to all motorists throughout Abu Dhabi to act with greater responsibility for their own lives and the lives of others. The advisory strongly recommends adhering to safe driving practices at all times without exception.
Officials explained that road safety is fundamentally a shared responsibility among all citizens and residents. They stressed that the pursuit of online fame or social media attention does not justify endangering human lives through hazardous driving conduct.
Specific Penalties and Fines Detailed
Under current UAE traffic regulations, the penalty for endangering the lives of others includes:
- A substantial fine of Dh2,000
- 23 black points added to the driver's licence
- Vehicle impoundment for a period of 60 days
- A payment of Dh50,000 required to release the impounded vehicle
Authorities have underscored their commitment to taking firm legal action against all offenders who violate these traffic safety laws. They have made it clear that no leniency will be shown to those who compromise public safety through reckless behavior.
Previous Enforcement Actions Against Noisy Driving
This latest warning follows similar enforcement actions taken earlier. In January 2026, Abu Dhabi police officials issued stern warnings and implemented sharp penalties specifically targeting noisy driving and disruptive vehicle operations. Authorities highlighted that loud, roaring engines and other forms of disruptive driving represent serious public safety concerns that will not be tolerated.
Under Article 20 of the Traffic and Circulation Law, motorists who operate vehicles causing excessive noise face:
- A Dh2,000 fine
- A deduction of 12 black points from their driving licence
These penalties apply to any driver found violating the law regarding vehicle noise pollution and disruptive driving practices.
