Mumbai is gearing up for a massive security deployment to ensure a safe transition into the New Year. The Government Railway Police (GRP) will be out in full force across the city's key railway stations on December 31st.
Massive Police Deployment for Railway Security
The Mumbai GRP commissioner, M Rakesh Kalasagar, has announced that over 900 railway policemen will be part of the special bandobast arrangement. This significant force will be strategically positioned across the Western and Central Railway networks. Commissioner Kalasagar outlined that the primary objectives of this operation are crowd control, women's safety, and rigorous anti-terror checks.
Key Stations and Timing of the Operation
The overnight security blanket will be particularly concentrated at several major stations in South Mumbai. The focus will be on Churchgate station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Marine Lines station, and Charni Road station. The deployment is scheduled to commence at 6 pm on December 31 and will continue through the night, concluding at 7 am on January 1.
Traffic Police on High Alert for Road Safety
Complementing the railway security, the Mumbai Traffic Police will also be on a city-wide vigil. They will be operating at full strength from Wednesday evening until Friday morning. Their mandate includes stringent checks for drink driving and other traffic violations such as rash driving, speeding, and riding without helmets. This dual-layer security approach aims to cover both the rail hubs and the road networks, ensuring comprehensive safety for all revelers.
The coordinated efforts of the GRP and Traffic Police underscore the administration's commitment to preventing untoward incidents and allowing Mumbaikars to celebrate the New Year with peace of mind.
