Jhunjhunu Police Seize 800kg Ganja Worth Rs 4 Crore in Truck Raid
800kg ganja worth Rs 4 crore seized in Jhunjhunu truck raid

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Jhunjhunu police have seized a massive consignment of ganja, weighing approximately 800 kilograms, with an estimated street value of nearly Rs 4 crore. The operation was carried out on Wednesday night during a coordinated road blockade.

Midnight Interception Leads to Major Haul

The operation was executed by a joint team comprising the District Special Team (DST) and personnel from the Udaipurwati police station. Acting on intelligence or suspicion, the teams set up a blockade where they signaled a container truck to stop. As the vehicle halted, two individuals aboard the truck exploited the cover of darkness to escape on foot, evading immediate capture.

However, the police managed to apprehend the truck driver on the spot. He has been identified as Surendra Saini, a resident of Udaipurwati in Jhunjhunu. Following his arrest, Saini was subjected to interrogation, during which he confessed to his involvement in smuggling the banned substance.

Secret Compartment Reveals Contraband

A thorough search of the container truck led to the discovery of the illicit cargo. The ganja was not openly stored but was cleverly concealed within a secret cabin built inside the vehicle. Police officials recovered large packets of the drug from this hidden compartment. The total weight of all the packets was confirmed to be around 800 kilograms.

Providing details on the source, Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay stated that the contraband had been transported from the northeastern state of Assam. This points to a long-distance smuggling network operating across states.

Ongoing Investigation and Past Seizures

The police have launched a comprehensive probe to track down and arrest the two absconding individuals. Furthermore, the interrogation of the arrested driver, Surendra Saini, is continuing. Authorities are pressing him for crucial information regarding the broader smuggling network, including the suppliers and the intended delivery points for the massive ganja consignment.

This incident is not an isolated one in the Udaipurwati area. In a similar operation back in October of this year, the police had seized more than 1,000 kilograms of ganja. The repeat of such a large-scale seizure indicates the region's vulnerability to being used as a transit route for drug traffickers and underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat this menace.

The successful seizure has prevented a large quantity of drugs from reaching the market and represents a major financial blow to the smuggling syndicate behind this operation.
