In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Prakasam district police in Andhra Pradesh have seized approximately 7 kilograms of ganja during intensive checks conducted at the Ongole railway station and on a moving express train. The operation led to the detention of five individuals, all hailing from the states of Jharkhand and Bihar.

Multi-Team Operation Nets Major Haul

The special drive was executed with precision by multiple police teams. A coordinated force, including officers from the women police station, special party units, Eagle team personnel, and a sniffer dog squad, carried out systematic inspections. They thoroughly combed through train coaches, station premises, the parcel section, passenger luggage, and any suspicious consignments.

The crucial interception happened during checks conducted between the Ongole and Singarayakonda stations on the Alappuzha Express. It was here that the police teams discovered and confiscated the large quantity of contraband.

Detainees Identified, Handed Over for Probe

The five persons taken into custody in connection with the seizure have been identified as Sarvam Layya (24), Miskarma Gaurav (22), Saravan Layya (31), Manthu Manjhi (29), and Prakash Mirdha (28). Following their detention at the scene, the individuals along with the seized ganja were formally handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation.

Police officials have reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities. They warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in the transportation, sale, or consumption of narcotic substances within the region.
