4 killed as overloaded truck overturns on car in Bundi

A joyous journey to a birthday celebration turned into a nightmare for a family from Tonk after a devastating road accident on National Highway 52 in Bundi district. Four members of the same family lost their lives on Thursday evening when a heavily loaded truck overturned and crushed their car.

The Tragic Sequence of Events

The accident occurred around 6:30 PM near the Selor overbridge, within the limits of the Bundi Sadar police station. According to police officials, the family was traveling to Kota to attend a birthday function when the tragedy struck. An overloaded bajri (gravel) truck first collided with the car from behind, causing both vehicles to skid uncontrollably across the highway.

In a horrific turn, the massive truck then toppled over, landing directly on top of the smaller car and crushing it under its weight. The immense impact resulted in the immediate death of four occupants inside the car. The sole survivor was reportedly thrown out of the vehicle during the chaotic sequence of the collision.

Victims and Immediate Aftermath

The deceased have been identified as three brothers and their cousin, all residents of the same locality in Tonk city. They are Fariuddin (45), Azamiuddin (40), Moinuddin (60), and Saifuddin (28). The injured survivor is Vasiuddin (64), whose son Saifuddin was among those killed.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot with a crane to manage the wreckage. The four bodies were retrieved and taken to Bundi district hospital. Dr. LN Meena, the principal medical officer, confirmed that all four were brought dead. The injured Vasiuddin, who sustained minor injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Official Statements and Investigation

Additional Superintendent of Police for Bundi, Uma Sharma, provided details on the probable cause. She stated that a tyre burst on the truck likely led to the driver losing control, causing the vehicle to ram into the car from behind. "Both vehicles skidded before the truck overturned onto the car," Sharma explained.

The bodies have been kept in the mortuary for a postmortem examination, which is expected to be conducted on Saturday morning. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on the condition of the truck, its load, and the exact circumstances that led to the tyre failure and subsequent loss of control.

This tragic incident highlights the perennial dangers of overloading and vehicle maintenance on India's highways, snuffing out lives in an instant and leaving a family shattered.
