Rajasthan Police Uncover Interstate Mephedrone Racket with Major Chemical Seizure
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, police in Rajasthan have exposed an extensive interstate drug racket following the seizure of a massive chemical consignment. The operation, which led to multiple detentions and the discovery of a clandestine manufacturing unit, highlights the ongoing battle against organized crime in the region.
Night Patrol Leads to Major Breakthrough
Acting on specific intelligence, the District Special Team in Jhalrapatan, Rajasthan, conducted coordinated night patrolling on Tuesday. During their surveillance, officers noticed a pickup vehicle and a Mahindra TUV parked suspiciously at the Growth Centre intersection in Jhalrapatan. This routine check quickly escalated into a major investigation as authorities moved to intercept the vehicles and their occupants.
The individuals in the vehicles were identified as Deepak, Jitendra Singh, and Shelender Vilala, all hailing from Agar Malwa district in Madhya Pradesh. Upon searching the pickup, police made a startling discovery: six plastic drums containing a total of 320.72 kilograms of 2-bromo-4-methyl propiophenone. This chemical is a critical precursor commonly used in the illicit production of Mephedrone, also known as MD, a popular synthetic stimulant.
Interstate Connections and Drug Factory Raid
During preliminary interrogation, the detained suspects revealed that the chemical had been transported from Maharashtra to Kota, Rajasthan, before being loaded into a hired pickup vehicle destined for Agar in Madhya Pradesh. The consignment was allegedly delivered to an individual named Jaynarayan, also known as Mamu, who, along with his associates, used the chemical to manufacture Mephedrone and other similar narcotic substances.
Armed with this information and additional inputs about a drug manufacturing unit operating in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan police immediately coordinated with local authorities across the state border. This swift action led to the detention of Jaynarayan and his associate Ramlal in Agar, where they had received the chemical consignment late at night.
Further questioning uncovered that the chemical was intended to be supplied to Raghunandan Patidar in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. Although Raghunandan had fled before police could apprehend him, raids conducted at his suspected locations yielded significant results. The Machalpur police discovered a factory involved in the manufacture of Mephedrone at his residence, seizing a large quantity of drug manufacturing equipment and additional chemicals during the operation.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation
A case has been registered against the accused at the Jhalarapatan police station under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The charges relate to preparing to manufacture commercial quantities of narcotics, underscoring the serious nature of the offenses.
Police officials, including SP of Jhalawar district Amit Kumar Budania, emphasized that this action was part of a special campaign launched against drug smugglers in response to rising incidents of organized crime in the district. The investigation remains active, with authorities working diligently to trace the source of the seized chemical and identify the entire network involved in this illegal drug trade.
This operation not only disrupts a key supply chain for synthetic drugs but also showcases the effectiveness of interstate police collaboration in tackling narcotics networks that span multiple regions.
