3 Kg Heroin, China-Made Pistol Seized in Amritsar Operations

The Amritsar Rural Police have recovered more than 3 kilograms of heroin and a China-manufactured pistol in two distinct operations conducted within the past 24 hours. One suspect, identified as Gursahib Singh, a resident of Dhanoe Kalan village under the Gharinda police station jurisdiction, has been arrested in connection with the first seizure.

First Operation: Interception and Recovery

According to police officials, the first operation unfolded during a routine checking procedure. Officers intercepted Gursahib Singh while he was traveling on a motorcycle along the defence drain, heading from Hardo Rattan village towards Attari. Acting on specific intelligence regarding his involvement in drug peddling, police established a checkpoint near Atalgarh village. A subsequent search of the suspect led to the recovery of 1 kilogram of heroin and a China-made .30 bore pistol. Singh was taken into custody immediately at the scene.

“The police received specific information that the accused was involved in drug peddling and was travelling on a motorcycle along the defence drain from Hardo Rattan village towards Attari,” stated Nirvail Singh, a police officer involved in the operation. The authorities have registered a case against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

Second Operation: Heroin Found in Vacant Plot

In a parallel development, personnel from the Kathunangal police station recovered an additional 2 kilograms of heroin. The narcotics were discovered concealed within a vacant plot situated along the service lane on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road in the Kathunangal area. In this instance, a case under the NDPS Act has been registered against unidentified persons, as the owner or occupants of the plot have not yet been determined.

Investigation and Cross-Border Links

Police are now conducting a thorough investigation to trace the origin of both the heroin and the firearm. Officials are examining whether Gursahib Singh has connections with organized cross-border smuggling networks that operate between India and Pakistan. The proximity of Amritsar to the international border makes such links a key focus of the probe.

“Efforts are underway to identify other persons involved in the supply chain,” a police spokesperson noted, adding that further arrests and recoveries are anticipated as the investigation progresses. The authorities are also scrutinizing the source of the China-made pistol, which is often trafficked through illicit channels.
