A devastating head-on collision between a cargo van and a two-wheeler near Mettur in Salem district resulted in the deaths of three young men on Friday night. The accident occurred around 10 pm near Papathi Kattuvalavu in the Vanavasi area, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Fatal Crash

According to police from the Nangavalli station, the cargo van and the two-wheeler were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. The impact was so severe that the two youths on the bike, identified as 19-year-old Mohan Kumar and 20-year-old Sanjay Bharathi, were thrown off their vehicle. Both residents of Rama Koundanur died instantly at the spot.

S Vimal, aged 22, who was a passenger in the cargo van, sustained grievous injuries. He succumbed to his wounds while being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Injured Survivor and Driver on the Run

Another passenger in the van, Ramakrishnan, suffered a leg fracture in the crash. He was promptly admitted to the Mettur Government Hospital, where his condition is now reported to be stable.

In a troubling turn of events, the driver of the cargo van, identified as Vijayaraghavan from Mecheri, fled the scene immediately after the accident. The Nangavalli police have registered a case and launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding driver.

Police Investigation and Postmortem

Police officials, alerted about the tragic incident, quickly reached the location. They recovered the bodies and sent them to the Mettur Government Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact causes of death.
