In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Thiruvananthapuram City Police successfully seized two kilograms of ganja from a rented house located near the Menamkulam area on Sunday. The operation was a coordinated effort involving specialized units and local police, marking a continued push against drug trafficking networks in the state capital.
Joint Raid Leads to Major Seizure
The contraband was recovered during a meticulously planned joint inspection. The operation was carried out by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (Dansaf) alongside officers from the Kazhakkoottam police station. The decisive action was initiated based on specific intelligence received by the City Police Commissioner, Mr. Karthick K.
The targeted house was situated close to the Menamkulam flyover, within the premises of the Sreenagar Residence Association. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the premises had been rented nearly two years ago by one Mohammed Azaruddin. Notably, Azaruddin was previously arrested from Poonthura in connection with a separate drug-related case. Authorities allege that he used this rented accommodation specifically for storing large quantities of ganja.
Intensified Surveillance Across the City
Police officials stated that this seizure is a direct result of intensified surveillance and enforcement activities currently being implemented across Thiruvananthapuram. The primary objective of these measures is to curb the trafficking and distribution of illegal narcotic substances within the city. As part of standard procedural formalities, the seized ganja was thoroughly examined at the spot by the investigating team.
Special Team to Probe Wider Network
Highlighting the seriousness of the case, City Police Commissioner Karthick K announced that a special investigation team has been constituted to probe the matter further. This team will delve deeper to identify other individuals potentially involved in the drug network. Commissioner Karthick added that efforts are actively underway to trace the source of the seized ganja and to determine if the rented house was being used as a regular storage point for narcotics.
This operation underscores the police department's committed focus on dismantling drug supply chains and highlights the ongoing challenges in combating narcotics trade in urban areas.
