Medical Students Allegedly Attack Security Guards at Purnia Hospital
Around 200 medical students reportedly launched a violent attack on private security guards at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Purnia late Tuesday night. The assault left 22 guards injured, with several bleeding from their wounds.
Incident Escalates Over Guard Behavior Complaint
The situation escalated following complaints about a guard's alleged inappropriate behavior toward a female student. Students claimed to have recorded the incident on their mobile phones, providing what they described as evidence of misconduct.
Security personnel stated the attack occurred after guards had completed their routine duties and were sleeping inside the old OPD premises. According to injured guard Abhishek Kumar Yadav, a large group of medical students entered the building late at night and launched a sudden assault.
"The attackers carried sticks, belts, bats, rods and lathis," Yadav alleged. "They beat the guards severely, leaving several bleeding."Security Guards Launch Protest Strike
In response to the attack, security guards at GMCH began a work boycott on Wednesday morning. They declared they would not return to duty until authorities took strict action against those responsible for the violence.
Among the injured guards were Abhishek Kumar Yadav, Manoj Chaurasia, Mayank Kumar and Prince Kumar, along with several others. The boycott disrupted hospital security arrangements, with staff warning that the situation left the medical facility vulnerable.
Guards alleged that such incidents occurred repeatedly on campus and that administration officials failed to take effective steps to prevent violence. They demanded better security measures and immediate action against the perpetrators.
Female Guard Expresses Safety Concerns
Female guard Nandini Devi expressed serious concerns about safety following the incident. "Guards often face conflict when they try to stop students from leaving hostels at night to meet friends," she said.
"If male guards can be attacked, female guards could be targeted next," Devi warned. She also questioned the allegation about guard behavior, suggesting it might be part of a conspiracy and claiming that video evidence may not conclusively identify the guard involved.
Police Investigation Underway
Police managed to calm the situation after pacifying the students following the Tuesday night incident. Authorities registered a formal complaint and launched an investigation into the matter.
Phanishwarnath Renu ToP in-charge Raj Nandni confirmed police awareness of a video allegedly showing obscene behavior. "The matter is under investigation," Nandni stated on Wednesday.
Despite repeated attempts, GMCH officials could not be contacted for their comments on the incident. The hospital administration has remained silent as investigations continue into the violent clash between medical students and security personnel.
