Krishnagiri Officials Seize 2 Tons of Smuggled Ration Rice in Pochampally
In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, district officials in Krishnagiri seized approximately two tons of ration rice that was being smuggled in a car in Pochampally. The operation took place early on Sunday morning, highlighting the authorities' vigilance in combating such crimes.
Operation Based on Tip-Off Leads to Seizure
The seizure was initiated after the district supply officer received a credible tip-off about potential smuggling activities in the area. A dedicated team, led by the Pochampally taluk supply officer and supported by special revenue inspectors, swiftly conducted a search operation along the Palethottam-SIPCOT Road.
During their patrol, officials noticed a vehicle parked suspiciously with its engine running for an extended period. As they approached the car, the occupants abandoned it and fled the scene, leaving behind the illicit cargo.
Discovery and Seizure of Contraband
Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officials uncovered two tons of ration rice neatly packed in bundles. The rice, intended for public distribution, was being illegally transported, prompting immediate action. Both the rice and the vehicle were seized as evidence in the case.
Legal Actions and Warnings
A formal complaint has been filed at the Pochampally police station against the absconding suspects. Police have registered a case and are actively investigating the incident to identify and apprehend those involved.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued a stern warning, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against individuals engaged in smuggling ration rice. Authorities have indicated that such offenses may be prosecuted under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act, which allows for preventive detention of habitual offenders.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by local officials to curb illegal activities and ensure that essential commodities like ration rice reach their intended beneficiaries without diversion.
