Maddur Police Arrest 18 in Murder of Rowdy-Sheeter Over Cigarette Dispute
In a shocking incident that highlights how minor disagreements can escalate into fatal violence, Maddur police have arrested 18 people in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old rowdy-sheeter during a brutal clash near Kolli Circle in Maddur town earlier this week.
Victim Identified as Yashwant alias 'Kachi'
The victim has been identified as Yashwant, who was popularly known by his alias 'Kachi'. According to police reports, the entire violent episode stemmed from what began as a trivial dispute over a single cigarette. This minor altercation quickly spiraled into a deadly confrontation between two rival groups, resulting in tragic consequences.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Fatal Clash
Police investigations reveal that the conflict originated earlier in the day when a group of youths was reportedly consuming alcohol in an open field. During this gathering, Yashwant allegedly assaulted a young man who refused to give him a cigarette, thereby triggering immediate tensions between the groups.
Later that night, in an attempt to resolve the brewing conflict, a meeting was arranged between the two groups through mediation. However, what was intended as a peace discussion quickly deteriorated into a heated argument. The verbal confrontation soon escalated into physical violence, with members of the rival group allegedly attacking Yashwant with clubs and other weapons, leading to his tragic death.
Retaliatory Violence and Injuries
In the retaliatory action that followed the initial attack, two youths from the opposing group sustained serious injuries. These individuals have been identified as Darshan and Sachin, both of whom required medical attention following the violent exchange.

Maddur police have registered two separate cases in connection with this incident. The first case pertains to the murder of Yashwant, while the second case addresses the attempted murder of the injured individuals. In the murder case, police have arrested 10 individuals: Darshan, Sachin, Dhanush, Siddaraju, Lohit, Mahesh, Sachin alias Katte, Lankesh, Sanjay Gowda, and Viji.
Additionally, seven other individuals have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder case, bringing the total number of arrests to 18. Superintendent of Police Shobharani provided further context, revealing that Yashwant already had three criminal cases registered against him prior to this incident. Police authorities had previously recommended his externment from the district, and the legal process for this action was already underway at the time of his death.
