Trichy Police Book 15, Including Minor's Family, Under POCSO for 4-Year Abuse
15 Booked in Trichy for Minor's Sexual Assault Over 4 Years

In a deeply disturbing case from Tamil Nadu, the Trichy police have registered a case against fifteen individuals, including the mother and grandfather of a minor girl, for allegedly subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults over a span of four years across Trichy and Karur districts.

FIR Filed After Years of Delay

The Srirangam All Women Police Station (AWPS) finally filed a First Information Report on January 7, 2025, based on a formal complaint submitted by District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) P Ragul Ganthi. The case was officially registered by Inspector Selvamalar, who is also leading the investigation.

A source within the district administration revealed that the case had been languishing since 2021, with no FIR registered until now. "We got to know of it while going through the pending files," the source stated, highlighting a significant procedural delay.

Horrific Timeline of Abuse and Pregnancy

According to the FIR, the victim, who is now 15 years old, was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused between January 1, 2021, and January 2025. Police allege that the minor was subjected to persistent sexual abuse during this entire period.

The prolonged abuse had severe consequences. The girl became pregnant and was admitted to a private hospital on June 14, 2023, where she later gave birth to a male child. Shockingly, as the family was unwilling to accept the newborn, the child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for care and protection.

Family Members Accused of Complicity

In a particularly grievous aspect of the case, the victim's own grandfather and mother have been booked by the police. They face charges for failing to report the sexual assaults to the authorities despite being aware of the ongoing crime, making them complicit in the eyes of the law.

The accused have been charged under a stringent set of laws, including:

  • Section 450 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
  • Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Sections 5(1), 5(n), 5(ii) read with Section 6(1) of the POCSO Act
  • Sections 16 read with 17 of the POCSO Act

The police have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway to ensure justice is served for the minor survivor.
