Thirteen people, including a teenager who fainted, were trapped inside a lift at City Centre LA Mall in Bareilly's Civil Lines area for 35 minutes on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 10 pm, causing panic among the trapped individuals.
Details of the incident
According to mall officials, the lift malfunctioned suddenly, trapping the occupants between floors. The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, fainted due to suffocation and lack of ventilation inside the cramped space. Other trapped individuals pressed the emergency alarm, prompting mall security to respond.
Rescue operation
Mall staff and security personnel rushed to the site and worked to manually open the lift doors. After 35 minutes of effort, all 13 people were safely evacuated. The fainted teenager was given first aid and later recovered. No serious injuries were reported.
Response from authorities
A mall spokesperson stated, "We regret the inconvenience caused. The lift has been temporarily shut down for inspection. We are cooperating with authorities to ensure such incidents do not recur." Police officials from Civil Lines station visited the mall to assess the situation. An investigation into the lift's maintenance records has been initiated.
