Kolkata Police Nab 10 Suspects in South Kolkata Gang Violence

In a significant development following Sunday's violent confrontation in south Kolkata, police have apprehended ten individuals linked to the incident. The clash, which erupted in the Golpark area, involved rival groups and resulted in injuries to two persons.

Details of the Arrested Individuals

According to police officials involved in the investigation, those arrested range in age from 18 to 38 years. The group comprises residents from two primary locations:

  • Kasba Police Station Area: Bobby Hela (28), Arjun Mallick (29), Sheikh Bacchu (38), Mukesh Paswan (32), and Raj Haldar (24).
  • Rabindra Sarobar Area: Rabin Das (29), Sujan Haldar (19), Gopal Sarkar (29), and Sandip Naskar (18).

Authorities have confirmed that five of the detainees hail from Rabindra Sarobar, while the remaining five are from the Kasba locality.

Probe Uncovers Sona Pappu's Alleged Role

The investigation has taken a notable turn with the emergence of local miscreant Sona Pappu's name in connection with the violence. Police sources indicate that Pappu and his gang are under scrutiny for their potential involvement in the incident.

"We are investigating whether more people were involved in the incident," stated a police officer. "We are going through the CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the suspects." The officer further emphasized that additional arrests are likely as the probe progresses.

Violent Confrontation at Panchanantala

The conflict unfolded around 8:30 PM on Sunday when approximately 100 to 150 individuals, with their faces concealed, stormed Panchanantala in Golpark. The location was hosting a picnic organized by a local club at the time.

Sources reveal that the rival groups engaged in a fierce clash utilizing firearms, bombs, and sharp weapons. The altercation escalated to stone-pelting, causing damage to police vehicles and motorcycles belonging to local residents.

Law enforcement officials have recovered empty shell casings and remnants of crude bombs from the street, providing tangible evidence of the violence that transpired.

Police Response and Commissioner's Statement

In response to the incident, Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar issued a stern warning on Monday, asserting that no one involved in the incident would be spared. To maintain security and prevent further unrest, a police picket has been established in the affected area.
