Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Unveils Ambitious Greater Agra Township Project

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Tuesday that the newly launched Greater Agra township initiative will propel the region's growth as a 'second Noida,' fundamentally reshaping the urban landscape of the historic Taj city. The announcement came during a ceremony where the CM performed the bhoomi pujan for the project, which is set to be developed with a substantial investment of Rs 5,142 crore.

Massive Development Push in Agra District

In a significant boost to Agra's infrastructure, Yogi Adityanath simultaneously inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 325 development projects across the district, collectively valued at Rs 6,466.37 crore. Emphasizing the government's vision, the CM stated, "Our objective is to transform Agra beyond its identity as merely a tourist destination. We envision it as a modern, cultural, and economic powerhouse. This new city will not only be smart but also secure, representing a unique blend of faith and contemporary urbanization."

He highlighted that the project would attract major corporations, thereby generating substantial employment opportunities for the local population.

Project Details and Features

The Greater Agra township is being executed under the Uttar Pradesh government's New City Incentive Scheme. The Agra Development Authority will oversee its construction on a sprawling 449.65-hectare plot located in the Raipur and Rahan Kalan areas. In a nod to cultural heritage, the sectors within the township will be named after ten sacred rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, and Godavari.

A government spokesperson confirmed that the project has secured RERA approval and will encompass:

  • Multi-storey apartments and group housing complexes
  • Residential plots
  • Modern road networks
  • Advanced sewerage systems
  • Extensive green spaces
  • Comprehensive civic amenities designed to accommodate over 10,000 families

Infrastructure and Connectivity Enhancements

Addressing the audience, who waited patiently despite delays caused by inclement weather, CM Yogi Adityanath acknowledged Agra's political support, noting that the city has provided the BJP with nine MLAs, one mayor, an MP, and a district panchayat president. In reciprocation, he emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing the city's infrastructure, citing the Agra Metro as a key example.

The projects inaugurated or launched on Tuesday are expected to significantly bolster Agra's infrastructure, tourism sector, housing facilities, and overall connectivity. Furthermore, the CM announced plans to accelerate the development of Agra airport, with a new civil terminal slated for completion by the end of this year.

Future Initiatives and Political Remarks

Yogi Adityanath pledged special attention to the development of the Fatehpur Sikri area and indicated that the construction of a rubber dam in the city would commence promptly upon the timely preparation of a detailed project report.

Reflecting on broader governance achievements, the CM highlighted the removal of Article 370 in Kashmir as a measure that has curbed terrorism, alongside ongoing efforts to eliminate Naxalism and Maoism from the country. He criticized previous opposition-led governments for allegedly patronizing mafia elements, asserting that the BJP's 'double engine' government has decisively crushed such forces.

"Ayodhya, Mathura, and Sambhal have been restored to their ancient cultural glory. It is imperative for the public to remain united for the preservation and promotion of Sanatan traditions," he added.

Upcoming Events and Global Context

The Chief Minister revealed that he would soon return to Agra for the inauguration of the Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial, a dedicated museum, and the second phase of the Metro project.

In his address, Yogi Adityanath also touched upon global economic challenges, noting that even nations like the United States have experienced a fourfold increase in petrol prices, while Pakistan faces severe devastation. In contrast, he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership for steering India on a path of sustained development.
