The Uttarakhand government has introduced a financial assistance scheme to provide housing relief to families of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and war-disabled veterans rebuilding their lives. The 'Housing Assistance Grant' scheme, implemented by the State Sainik Board under the Sainik Welfare Department, offers financial support to widows and dependents of soldiers martyred in wars and border clashes, along with war-disabled retired soldiers, for constructing or repairing a house.
Key Features of the Scheme
Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive a one-time grant of Rs 2 lakh during their lifetime, strictly for house construction or renovation. The support aims to strengthen long-term housing security for military families and ex-servicemen. The benefit can be availed only once in a lifetime, and applicants must be residents of Uttarakhand. Eligible categories include widows or dependents of martyrs and war-disabled retired soldiers.
Application Process
Understanding eligibility criteria beforehand can prevent delays or confusion. Beneficiaries must apply offline through the concerned District Sainik Welfare Office. After document verification and eligibility confirmation, the sanctioned amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Required Documents
- Attested copy of the Battle Casualty Report of the martyr soldier or war-disabled retired soldier
- Attested copy of the Part-II Order of Battle Casualty
- Certificate of Dependents
- Building construction or repair estimate issued by a Junior or Assistant Engineer
- Certificate from the District Sainik Welfare Officer confirming no prior residential assistance from the state government
The Housing Assistance Grant scheme is part of Uttarakhand's broader welfare measures for ex-servicemen and families of soldiers who lost their lives in service. Through this initiative, the state aims to provide financial support for housing needs and extend assistance to those who have borne the costs of military service and sacrifice.
