UP Government Launches Major MSP Procurement Initiative for Farmers
In a significant move to bolster agricultural support, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi announced on Tuesday that the state government will commence procurement of gram, lentil, and mustard from April 7 to June 30. This comprehensive procurement drive aims to directly benefit farmers through a transparent digital system, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) payments, and an extensive procurement network across the state.
Enhanced Minimum Support Prices Announced
Minister Shahi revealed that the government has fixed Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for the upcoming procurement season with substantial increases over previous rates:
- Gram: Rs 5,875 per quintal (increased by Rs 225)
- Lentil: Rs 7,000 per quintal (increased by Rs 300)
- Mustard: Rs 6,200 per quintal (increased by Rs 250)
- Arhar: Rs 8,000 per quintal
These enhanced MSP rates are designed to provide additional financial benefits to farmers and strengthen their economic position.
Ambitious Procurement Targets Set

- Accurate and transparent transactions
- Direct benefit transfers to farmers' accounts
- Elimination of intermediaries in the payment process
- Real-time monitoring of procurement activities
Government's Broader Agricultural Vision
Minister Shahi emphasized that the state government is continuously working on multiple fronts to strengthen the agricultural sector. The key focus areas include:
- Increasing farmers' income through various support mechanisms
- Ensuring fair prices for agricultural crops
- Strengthening the overall agricultural infrastructure
- Implementing the price support scheme as a safety shield for farmers
The minister highlighted that procurement of pulses and oilseeds at MSP will prove particularly beneficial for farmers, making them economically stronger and more resilient.
Fertilizer Supply Assurance
In related agricultural news, Minister Shahi confirmed that there is no shortage of fertilizers in Uttar Pradesh. The state government is maintaining smooth fertilizer supplies across all 75 districts, ensuring that farmers have access to essential agricultural inputs during the crucial growing seasons.
This comprehensive procurement initiative represents a significant step in the Uttar Pradesh government's ongoing efforts to support the agricultural community, enhance rural economies, and ensure food security through systematic procurement of essential crops.
