Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for eight major development projects in Tripura on Friday. The combined investment for these initiatives totals Rs 365 crore, marking a significant push for infrastructure and growth in the northeastern state.
Boosting Connectivity and Tribal Development
The projects are strategically designed to enhance road connectivity, promote tourism, improve energy access, and accelerate the overall development of tribal areas in Tripura. Minister Scindia emphasized that these efforts align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ashtalakshmi' vision, which positions the Northeast not merely as a geographical frontier but as a vital engine driving India's economic growth.
Completed Projects Worth Rs 270 Crore
Among the eight projects, five have already been completed with an investment of Rs 270 crore. These include the Jatanbari-Mandirghat via Tirathmukh Road, spanning 13.775 kilometers, and the improvement of KA Road from Erarpar to Ambassa, covering 28.90 kilometers. These developments are expected to significantly ease travel between villages, markets, schools, and hospitals, thereby strengthening the local economy and improving access to essential services.
Additionally, the Gandacherra-Raishyabari-Narikel Kunja Road, an 8-kilometer stretch, will further connect tribal settlements to district headquarters and critical facilities, enhancing social inclusion and integration.
New Projects Focused on Remote Areas
Three new projects, worth Rs 95 crore, have been initiated to ensure sustained connectivity for hilly and remote regions. These include the Kowaifung (Panjirai)-Karbook Road (9.10 km), the Jampui (PMGSY Point)-Kangrai Road, and the Burighat-Sermun-II Road. These roads will help keep these areas integrated with mainstream development, preventing isolation and fostering economic opportunities.
Tourism and Energy Initiatives
Scindia highlighted the positive impact of improved connectivity from Amarpur (Fatiksagar) to Chabimura, foreseeing a boost in heritage tourism. This development is expected to create economic opportunities for local guides, artisans, and families, leveraging Tripura's cultural and historical assets.
The minister also underscored the importance of the Solar Micro Grid project under the PM-DevINE scheme. This initiative will provide clean and reliable electricity in remote regions, strengthening education, healthcare, and livelihoods by ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
Substantial Central Investment in Northeast
Scindia noted that the Central government has invested over Rs 6.5 lakh crore in the Northeast over the past 12 years, with every ministry allocating 10% of its budget to the region. He credited Tripura's progress in social, economic, and infrastructure development to the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha and effective coordination between the centre and state governments.
Minister's Itinerary and Spiritual Visit
Later in the day, Scindia is scheduled to visit development sites and offer prayers at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple (Matabari), a major Shaktipeeth. This spiritual visit is aimed at seeking blessings for the prosperity of Tripura and the nation, reflecting the cultural significance of the region.
