Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils Massive Infrastructure Development Drive in Gujarat
From Vav-Tharad in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a comprehensive suite of infrastructure and development projects, marking a significant push for regional connectivity and industrial growth. The initiatives span highways, railways, energy, urban development, and tourism, with investments running into thousands of crores of rupees.
Major Highway and Road Projects Inaugurated
Among the headline announcements was the inauguration of the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway, an access-controlled highway constructed at a cost of Rs 5,100 crore. This critical infrastructure is expected to dramatically improve regional connectivity and spur industrial expansion within the Dholera Special Investment Region.
Additionally, foundation stones were laid for several key road projects:
- The four-lane Idar-Badoli bypass section.
- The upgradation of the Dholavira-Mauvana-Vauva-Santalpur segment of the national highway.
- A new flyover at the Bhaijipura junction on the Gandhinagar-Koba-Airport road.
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the flyover at the PDPU junction on the same corridor. This vital link connects Gandhinagar to the airport and currently handles over 1.40 lakh vehicles daily, promising to ease traffic congestion significantly.
Energy and Rail Sector Boost
In a major boost to renewable energy, key power transmission projects were inaugurated, including the Khavda Pooling Station-2 and its associated transmission systems. This infrastructure is designed for the evacuation of 4.5 gigawatts of renewable energy, aligning with national clean energy goals.
The rail sector received substantial attention with multiple projects:
- Inauguration of the 29-kilometer Kanalus-Jamnagar doubling project.
- Quadrupling of the 10.6-kilometer Gandhidham-Adipur section.
- Gauge conversion of the Himmatnagar-Khedbrahma project.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister flagged off the new Khedbrahma-Himmatnagar-Asarwa train service, enhancing passenger connectivity in the region.
Urban Development and Healthcare Initiatives
A total of 44 urban development projects worth Rs 5,300 crore were either inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid. These projects are set to transform urban infrastructure across Gujarat.
Significant healthcare infrastructure was also unveiled, including an 858-bed Rain Basera at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Similar facilities were inaugurated at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital and the GMERS Medical College in Gandhinagar, aiming to improve medical services and accommodation for patients and attendants.
Tourism and Water Infrastructure Enhancements
To boost tourism, a light and sound show at the UNESCO World Heritage site Rani Ki Vav and a water screen projection show at Vadnagar were inaugurated, offering new cultural experiences for visitors.
In North Gujarat, two crucial pipeline projects worth Rs 1,780 crore—the Kasara-Dantiwada and Dindrol-Mukteshwar pipelines—were inaugurated to enhance water supply. The foundation stone was also laid for the extension projects of the Sabarmati Riverfront, a landmark urban development in Ahmedabad.
This extensive rollout of projects underscores the government's focused approach to accelerating infrastructure development, improving connectivity, and fostering economic growth in Gujarat, with potential ripple effects for the broader national economy.
