Madhya Pradesh Receives Rs 15,188 Crore Railway Allocation in Union Budget 2026-27

In a significant boost to railway infrastructure, Madhya Pradesh has been allocated Rs 15,188 crore in the Union Budget 2026-27. This funding is earmarked for railway expansion, safety upgrades, infrastructure development, and enhanced passenger amenities across the state.

Record Capital Expenditure for Indian Railways

The allocation forms part of Indian Railways' record capital expenditure (CAPEX) of Rs 2,93,030 crore for the fiscal year. Notably, Rs 1,20,000 crore of this total is specifically dedicated to safety initiatives, underscoring the government's focus on secure rail operations.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared these details on Monday, highlighting the strategic importance of the investments in Madhya Pradesh.

Major Railway Projects Underway in Madhya Pradesh

Major railway works in the state include new track projects currently in progress, with a total value of Rs 1,18,379 crore. Officials have confirmed that Madhya Pradesh has achieved a milestone with 100% electrification of its railway lines. This achievement is expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, aligning with sustainable development goals.

Station Redevelopment and Safety Enhancements

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 80 stations across Madhya Pradesh are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 3,163 crore. This initiative aims to enhance passenger facilities and modernize station infrastructure, providing a better travel experience.

To improve safety and reduce congestion at crossings, 1,283 rail flyovers and road underbridges have been constructed. Railway officials report that construction activity is progressing rapidly, supported by adequate funding to ensure timely completion.

Advanced Safety and Monitoring Systems

Advanced safety and monitoring systems are planned across 4,591 route kilometers in the state. These systems will include:

  • Optical fiber networks
  • Communication towers
  • Data centers
  • RFID-based devices

These technologies are designed to strengthen operational control and security, making rail travel safer and more reliable.

Expansion of Passenger Connectivity

Passenger connectivity is being expanded through the operation of five pairs of Vande Bharat Express and four Amrit Bharat Express trains serving multiple districts. These services aim to improve travel comfort and support socio-economic growth by enhancing regional connectivity.

Proposed Dedicated Freight Corridor

A proposed 2,052-km Dedicated Freight Corridor from Dankuni to Surat, passing through Madhya Pradesh, is expected to strengthen logistics, reduce pressure on existing rail routes, and support industrial development in the region.

Official Statements and Future Outlook

Bhopal DRM Pankaj Tyagi commented on the budget provisions, stating that the infrastructure funding is robust and projects are advancing quickly. This reflects a concerted effort to modernize Madhya Pradesh's railway network and boost its economic potential.

The comprehensive allocation underscores the government's commitment to transforming rail infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and passenger convenience.
