The District Magistrate of Kanpur held a review meeting at the Collectorate on Friday to oversee preparations for a mass marriage ceremony scheduled for June 2026 under the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme in Kanpur Nagar.
Targets and Applications
The state government has set a target of 1534 marriages for poor and weaker families under the scheme for the financial year 2026-27. So far, 542 applications have been received, with 509 from rural areas and 33 from urban areas.
Review and Verification
During the meeting, preparations including applications, verification, and logistical arrangements were reviewed in detail. The DM directed officials to complete application verification in a time-bound manner.
Financial Allocation
Under the scheme, a total expenditure of Rs 1,00,000 per couple has been allocated. Of this, Rs 60,000 will be transferred directly to the bride's bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Additionally, wedding gifts worth Rs 25,000 will be provided, and Rs 5,000 per couple will be spent on arrangements such as food, marquees, furniture, drinking water, and lighting.
Eligibility Criteria
The scheme benefits families with an annual income not exceeding Rs 3 lakh. The bride's guardians must be domiciled in Uttar Pradesh, and the groom must be a resident of India. On the marriage date, the bride must be at least 18 years old, and the groom at least 21 years old.
