Kanpur DM Helps Girl Whose Piggy Bank Was Broken

Kanpur: At the Janata Darshan programme held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, an 11-year-old girl, Iswa Khan, arrived with her mother, Shanno, and younger sister, Mariyam Fatima, residents of Jajmau, seeking help from district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh.

Incident Details

Shanno complained that during a dispute, their household belongings were damaged, including Iswa's piggy bank, which was broken and its contents taken. She said Iswa had been saving money for a long time to buy a school bag and other things she needed at school.

Emotional Moment

When the district magistrate asked Iswa how much she had saved, she said it was small amounts that she put in daily. As she spoke, the room fell silent and she drew the attention of everybody present. Mariyam Fatima stood beside her, holding their mother's arm, and both girls were a picture of sadness.

Action Taken

In a written plea, Shanno said she had previously approached the local police station but no action was taken. The DM instructed the Jajmau police station in charge to investigate the matter and take appropriate steps.

Singh later called Iswa and Mariyam and gifted them a new clay piggy bank and a school bag, and handed over Rs 1,000, asking them to place it inside the new piggy bank. Iswa smiled and hugged the gifts tightly. The DM advised the girls to continue saving for their dreams.

Impact

Janata Darshan sees a large number of grievances daily, but the account of Iswa's broken piggy bank and her aspirations grabbed all the attention. The incident highlights the importance of addressing even small grievances with empathy and prompt action.
