Indore Gets Rs 800 Crore Narmada Water Supply Project

Indore's Water Future Secured with Major Narmada Project Launch

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took a decisive step on Wednesday to address Indore's pressing water needs. He officially laid the foundation stone for a massive water supply project valued at Rs 800.19 crore. This ambitious initiative will draw water from the Narmada river, directly tackling the city's increasing demand for clean, reliable drinking water.

Mayor Highlights Long-Term Benefits and Safety Measures

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav expressed strong confidence in the project's impact. He emphasized that the scheme, operating under the AMRUT 2.0 framework, is designed to provide a smooth, safe, and high-quality water supply for decades to come. "This project will cater to both our present and future drinking water requirements," Bhargav stated. "It marks a significant milestone in our journey to ensure Indore receives clean, adequate, and dependable water."

The Mayor also extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Yadav for prioritizing Indore's future. He noted that the CM not only approved the project but also expanded its budget to enhance its scope. Bhargav clarified a crucial detail: the launched project encompasses more than just construction. It includes a comprehensive 10-year operation and maintenance plan, ensuring sustained performance and reliability.

Learning from Past Tragedies

In a somber reflection, Mayor Bhargav addressed the recent water contamination tragedy in Bhagirathpura. He described the incident as deeply painful for the residents of Indore and the entire state of Madhya Pradesh. Bhargav assured the public that authorities are implementing stringent measures to prevent any such occurrence in the future. The new water supply project is a cornerstone of these preventive efforts, aiming to eliminate risks associated with water quality.

Key Features of the AMRUT 2.0 Project

The project boasts several advanced technical components designed for efficiency and reliability:

  • A new intake well with a massive capacity of 1,650 million liters per day (MLD) will be constructed in Jalood and Bhaklay villages within Khargone district.
  • The system will utilize large-diameter pipelines measuring 2,235 mm for both raw-water and clear-water pumping, ensuring robust water transport.
  • To guarantee uninterrupted power supply, the project includes the establishment of 11 KV, 33 KV, and 132 KV electrical substations.
  • A modern water treatment plant with a 400 MLD capacity will be built to maintain high water quality standards.
  • A break pressure tank with a 12 MLD capacity will be installed to effectively balance water pressure throughout the distribution network.

This comprehensive infrastructure development represents a major investment in Indore's urban resilience and public health. It directly responds to the city's growth and the critical need for sustainable water management solutions.
