Hisar Bar Association Elections Scheduled for June 12

The District Bar Association, Hisar, will conduct its long-pending elections on June 12, following a unanimous decision taken during a General House meeting on Friday. In the meeting, members agreed to postpone discussions on the draft Constitution and proposed amendments until after the elections, thereby clearing the path for an early poll.

Appointment of Returning Officer

Senior advocate Dalip Jakhar has been unanimously appointed as the returning officer. To ensure the smooth conduct of the election process, advocates Rajbir Singh Payal, Rattan Singh Pannu, Ram Singh Sodhi, Meenu Sharma, Kamal Gupta, Anurag Bhardwaj, and Himanshu Arya Khowal have been appointed as assistant returning officers.

Election Schedule

According to the election schedule, nomination papers will be filed on May 26 and 27. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 27, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 29. Polling will be held on June 12 from 9 am to 5 pm, with counting of votes beginning immediately after polling concludes.

Voting Method

The Bar Association has expressed a preference for conducting the elections through electronic voting machines (EVMs). However, if EVMs are not available in time, the elections will be conducted using ballot papers.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria for candidates have also been announced. Candidates contesting for the post of president must have at least 10 years of Bar experience. Those contesting for vice-president and secretary posts need five years of experience, while a minimum of three years is required for the posts of joint secretary and treasurer. The treasurer's post has been reserved for a woman advocate.
