Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu issued clear directives on Tuesday. He wants all registered construction workers in the state to receive Himcare cards without delay. The Chief Minister also ordered prompt completion of their electronic Know Your Customer verification. This e-KYC process will happen through the Him Parivar Portal.
Welfare Benefits Access for Workers
Sukhu chaired a review meeting for the state building and other construction workers welfare board. He stated the primary goal of this initiative. It aims to guarantee that workers can fully access all welfare benefits available under the board's various schemes. The Chief Minister emphasized that these measures must reach every registered worker effectively.
Educational and Disability Support Enhanced
During the meeting, Sukhu gave specific instructions regarding education. He directed that financial assistance for higher education of workers' children should match government institution fees. This support covers PhD programs, MBBS courses, and engineering degrees.
He also focused on children with disabilities. Sukhu instructed officials to link these children of registered workers to the Mukhyamantri Sahara Yojana. This linkage will provide them with additional crucial support.
Anti-Drug Campaigns and Financial Details
The Chief Minister urged the welfare board to conduct anti-drug awareness campaigns. These campaigns will operate under the "Anti-Chitta" initiative. Sukhu stressed the importance of keeping workers informed and protected.
Board officials presented detailed expenditure reports during the review. The board spent Rs 20.70 crore in the 2023–24 financial year. Expenditure increased to Rs 33.27 crore in 2024–25. So far in the current 2025–26 financial year, spending has reached Rs 26.23 crore on various welfare schemes.
In the current year, the board provided Rs 31.06 lakh in pension payments. This assistance reached 1,606 beneficiaries directly.
Marriage Assistance and Overall Impact
Board chairman Nardev Singh Kanwar highlighted specific benefits. Registered workers receive financial assistance of Rs 51,000 for marriage. This benefit extends to the worker and up to two of their children.
Board CEO Rajiv Kumar provided broader context. He noted that approximately Rs 500 crore has been spent to date. This substantial investment has benefited over 4.76 lakh registered construction workers across Himachal Pradesh.
The Chief Minister's directives aim to streamline welfare delivery. By ensuring Himcare cards and completed e-KYC, workers should face fewer barriers. They can access education support, disability aid, marriage assistance, and pensions more efficiently.
