Ex-Army Personnel to Receive Specialized Farming Training Through KVK Initiative
Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth has announced a significant new initiative aimed at providing comprehensive agricultural training to former army personnel. The program will be conducted through the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) network, with specific arrangements to be coordinated at the Union level.
Announcement Made at Farmers' Mela in Bishunpur
The announcement came during a farmers' mela organized by KVK Gumla under the auspices of the Indian Mustard Research Institute (ST-Part) in Bishunpur, located approximately 50 kilometers from the Gumla district headquarters. The event served as a platform for discussing agricultural development and farmer empowerment initiatives in the region.
Formal Request for Training Program Details
During his address, Minister Seth specifically requested Padmashree recipient Ashok Bhagat, who serves as the patron of Gumla KVK and secretary of NGO Vikas Bharti, to submit detailed proposals regarding the training program. The request included specifications for trades to be included in residential training programs for ex-army personnel, covering both primary farm works and allied agricultural activities, along with recommended batch sizes.
"I will discuss the arrangements for the same at the Union level," Seth assured attendees, emphasizing the government's commitment to implementing this training initiative effectively.
Focus on Coarse Grains Cultivation
Minister Seth placed particular emphasis on expanding the cultivation of coarse grains, especially among small-scale farmers. He highlighted the economic potential of traditional crops that are well-suited to local conditions and market demands.
"Farming of finger millet and other local coarse grains can help enrich them," Seth stated, pointing to the dual benefits of nutritional value and economic sustainability that these crops offer to agricultural communities.
PM Kisan Samman Yojna Achievements Highlighted
The minister also shared significant statistics regarding the success of the PM Kisan Samman Yojna, revealing that as of March 13, a total of 9,32,00,000 farmers nationwide had received 22 installments under the scheme. For Jharkhand specifically, the number of beneficiaries reached 1,86,33,39, demonstrating substantial reach and impact of the program in the state.

Seth further elaborated on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special focus on farmer upliftment and women's empowerment initiatives within the agricultural sector.
